I have urges, and I think they have something to do with my age. Turning 30 has not only made me somewhat panicky about whether we are going to be able to start a family, more aware of the grey (not even grey, WHITE) hairs growing on my head… but now I have the urge to knit?! I have these images of me curled up on the sofa on a cold winter night, with my ball of yarn and knitting needles making scarves and socks for Xander, or maybe booties and sweaters for our new addition… if there ever is one. I keep looking up sites online that have “Learn to Knit” tutorials and trying to figure out where on earth I would buy yarn in Rotterdam. I have the knitting bug, and I have no idea where it came from.
I think back to when I was a little girl… I was sitting in the family room in the basement of my cousin Robin’s house. We were watching one of my favorite movies of all time called Escape to Witch Mountain about two siblings who could talk to each other in their minds and had magical powers. We got sidetracked when someone handed us a book.. We were complete intrigued by it, especially the pimples and penises, neither of which either of us had seen yet. It was so foreign and scary but at the same time it gave us something to look forward to. Boobies.
It was perfect. It saved my parents the discomfort of having to explain every little detail about how boys and girls are different, what causes acne, and the every day questions children have about the mental and physical changes that take place during puberty. It wasn’t too clinical or confusing, rather just had some cool pics (especially of the boys growing, I think that page got the most viewing even though we were still kids) and simple explainations. It was easy to understand and was written in a way that could really relate to kids.
I need a “What’s Happening To Me” book for turning 30. I’m sure there are many books out there that explain the psycological and physical changes that take place in a woman around this age. I don’t want those though, I want the simple one.. with the cool pics.
I know :(
Oh well, don’t knock it. You’re coming back to NL in Nov, which means you’ll be here for winter. You’ll be wishing you didn’t make fun of me when I’m handing out newly knitted scarves and you don’t get one! :P
btw knitting? you are a freak :)
My hairs are white too! I am actually quite pleased with this as I think it will make me look distinguished. More distinguished.
