Last week I was bored. I had run out of downloaded shows to watch and was wondering what I should download next.
I’d heard so many people talking about the show Battlestar Galactica but have never watched it myself. All I really knew about it was that it’s a newer version of a show that used to be on years ago and my sister refuses to watch it because they made Starbuck a girl.
I was desperate for something to watch while I was quilting and figured I’d give it a try. So far I’ve only watched the mini-series and most of the first season but…
Might I just take a moment to say…
HOLY SHIT THIS SHOW IS AWESOME!
Awesome… and confusing. Yes, I know being a BSG fan makes me even more of a geek than I was a week ago but like degrees matter. Once you are, you are.. and you may as well be the best one you can be!
Anyway, here’s what I get about the show so far:
Humans made Cylons. The cylons got pissed off and got tired of being slaves and decided to fight back. After buttloads of fighting they decided to go their separate ways.
Now in the new show the Cylons are back and have wiped out most of humanity, except about 50,000 people who are all together in one giant fleet running and hiding from them.
The Cylons can now look like humans and it’s hard to tell who is a machine and who is actually human.
Now here’s what I don’t get:
I know this blond chick is one of the models of the human-like Cylons. That she was pretending to be human before the attacks and was living as the lover of Gaius.
… but what’s the story with her on Galactica?
Is he insane and is just imagining her? Is she a cylon that somehow just exists in his head or can communicate with him through his thoughts?
Is she just using him as a pawn to get him to do what the cylons want him to do, or is he doing these things of his own accord and he just imagines it’s her telling him to?
Also, what about Sharon (Boomer)… There’s versions of her all over the place. Does the one on Galactica know she’s a cylon or is she just ‘dormant’ and waiting to be triggered? Sometimes it seems like she knows, but she threw me for a loop when she asked Gaius to give her the cylon detection test first.
I’m so confused! Am I missing something? Please don’t tell me anything that will spoil anything, as I said I’m only on season 1 at the moment.
Frack! This show has me gagging for the future seasons so some of these things are made more clear.
BSG is great… I used to watch it all the time when I was younger. I have to admit I like the old original series better. Also, i can’t come to grips with Starbuck being a female.

But with all of these movies about clones and clone revolutions, lets hope we learn from sci-fi movies. But knowing how humans are these movies are probably a good look at what will happen once we start cloning humans…..and yes I am all for it. I want to be the first person on my block to have a clone…..if you sleep with you clone does that make u gay?
The fact that she needs to eat a serious amount of pies? My lord, she’s skinny.
Faceless is a new Sean Bean show, the pilot was IMO the best this season. It’s a travesty that it hasn’t been picked up yet. Perhaps later this year.
Maybe have a look at the Raines pilot if you have time, too! Jeff Goldblum noir!
AAaah ok now that number six / Gaius thing makes more sense. I didn’t know if he was losing his mind or what.
It frustrates me though, I wish he’d stop listening to her! When he hid that fact that Sharon was a cylon I was really wishing he’d spill the beans. Not sure why I wanted her outed so badly!

OK, the “synthetics” (what the cylons call their human-looking ones) are clones, and don’t necessarily know they are cylon. One of the Sharons is helping the humans, that one is known as Boomer and then later as Athena. Number Six, the one that Gaius sees in his visions, isn’t on the ship. She explains that they implanted a communication device straight into his brain so only he can “see” her.
As for Boomer waiting to be triggered… hm. You’ll see. :P
In the old (oh so sacred) show, Boomer was best friends with the MALE starbuck and Apollo.
What’s next, Adama will turn out to be one of Austin Powers fem bots? oy. :)
We’re watching this too. I am just as confused as you are about the whole Boomer thing … I don’t know if it gets better (the confusion). If it helps any, hubby is not confused so maybe it’s a girl thing???
Whaaaatttttt!!! They did a new version of Battlestar Galactica? It sounds like I should see it… I can’t wait!

Theo: Omg, how much of a TV freak am I? I watch Heroes (I think it’s one of the best shows on TV at the moment) and Dexter (jesus he’s creepy) and Ugly Betty (LOVE IT).
I watched the entire first season of Eureka and am waiting for the next one but have never heard of Faceless!
I watched an episode of Smith but then it got dumped :/
Oh, and Kathy… apparently I got the names wrong. The call sign of the Sharon who turned out to be a Cylon is BOOMER, I saw athena when I was getting her pic and got confused. Apparently Athena isn’t in the show until season 3!
I have heard it is good. I loved the original. It was one of my favourite shows. I have to admit that I cannot remember the story too well. Too many years ago.
BSG is AWESOME. I even got the missus into it and she tends to hate anything scifi!
Have you been watching Heroes/Dexter? They’re the two major new shows this season, and they’re both bloody good too.
If you haven’t seen them yet, have a look at Faceless (only the pilot has been aired so far), Smith (cancelled after a few episodes) and Eureka. The missus is enjoying Ugly Betty, if you’re after something girly..

I’m gonna stick with Star Wars/Trek and re-runs of Buck Rogers! Damn BG to hell :)
