I’ve been feeling so great lately about being out working and feeling ‘normal’ again… but there is one thing I forgot about. That feeling when the weather is absolutely crap and you have to get up and go out in it to go to work. Gone are the days of staying home under a blanket on cold rainy days.
Yesterday my shift was canceled at work so I had the day off. I went into town to meet up with my friend Penny to see Eragon which was quite a bit better than I expected. I expected it to be pretty crap.
The weather was brutal.. high winds and rain, but about 10+ degrees C. Silly me wore my summer jacket which isn’t even waterproof. It was that or my winter jacket which is, that I’d sweat to death in.
On the way there and back I sat in the tram watching all the people coming and going with their umbrellas.
I wondered why they even bothered. It seemed as though every second person had their umbrella blown inside out, but they’d just pop it back into shape and continue on with what they were doing.
I have never quite gotten the umbrella thing. I find them so inconvenient. I’m always feeling like I’m going to bump into someone and poke their eye out.. and they never really keep me dry.
Not that I should talk, mind you… considering I was sitting in the tram like a drowned rat as the water seeped through my thin jacket, soaking my sweatshirt underneath. If I had a clue I would have bought a raincoat years ago, considering I live in one of the most rainy places on the planet.
Today is even worse. I can hear the wind gusting around the building, the sky is a dark grey which tells me the rain is not far off. I just know it will start once I’m about 5 steps out of the house and I’ll end up sitting behind my computer at work in damp clothing.
I don’t want to come out from under this blanket… so I’d like to ask the Dutch winter weather to kindly FOAD.
Hows the weather today?? 8 people dead in the UK today in weather related accidents :(
Yeah. Calgary weather isn’t that much better either.
It was brutal today. I went out to lunch with a friend and she (being far lighter than me) was actually lifted off her feet. There was sleet too – yuck!
BTW – I nominated your blog for the 2007 bloggies (in multiple categories, I have fun reading it). If you like mine, feel free to nominate it for Best Humor and Best New Blog.
Thanks for keeping me entertained!

I lived in Chicago for a while, and you could get almost everywhere downtown via underground tunnels. It was a ton of fun, and you didn’t need to worry about coats for lunch (or umbrellas).
Was Eragon better than the book? I wasn’t a huge fan of the book, so I’m not sure how much I’d like the movie.
I hate umbrellas too! The whole time we lived in Germany we would have this chilling drizzle all winter. Everyone in the city had these colorful (well, I guess they were usually black, to go with the dreariness) umbrellas they would carefully shake off as soon as they entered a building. I would walk in totally wet – wet clothes, wet pants, wet shoes, wet hair – and everyone would look at me like I was insane. I just don’t like them. They are annoying. They have almost poked my eyes out more times than I can count. You have to be responsible for them. Yuck. At least now in Malaysia the rain is warm, so I can be wet and not freeze to death. Let’s hear it for the tropics!
