If you remember a while back when we got Sydney (our new 3 Striped Mud Turtle) I mentioned that we had also wanted to get a Loggerhead Musk Turtle but had to wait for him to be ready to leave the breeder. Well, he was finally ready this past weekend and we went to pick him up.
His name is Chip and he’s adorable. He’s the exact same size as Sydney so they will be sharing a tank until they are a little bigger.
He’s still shy and hides a lot but he will settle in soon.
While I’m talking about turtles, I have a funny story to share… it makes me think of that horribly overused Forest Gump quote ‘Stupid is as Stupid does’.

MASSILLON, Ohio (AP) – A northeast Ohio man was arrested after he allegedly fired a gun at a turtle and accidentally shot himself in the foot.
Massillon (MAS’-ih-lawn) police say the 24-year-old man is recovering. He’s facing a count of discharging a weapon within city limits.
Police Sergeant Johnnie DiLoreto says the man caught the turtle during the weekend and attempted to shoot it. He missed the turtle, but shot himself in the foot.
The man caught the turtle while fishing the Tuscarawas (tus-kuh-RAW’-uhs) River in Massillon. Police think the turtle got away.
Bwaaaahahahaha … Karma’s a bitch!
It serves the guy right, why people take such joy in torturing turtles I’ll never understand. So often I see posts from people on different turtle forums about them rehabilitating turtles that have been tortured by people. I just don’t get it. One girl was talking about one of her guy friends saying how fun it is to drive up to a turtle on the side of the road and catch it on the side of it’s shell so it flies through the air or skids across the road. For someone who truly loves these creatures it’s heartbreaking to even think about.
I love how the guy is being charged with discharging a weapon within city limits but nothing to do with attempting to kill an animal. NICE! The Massillon police are morons.
My daughter has a Florida striped mud turtle about the same size, and in her original tank two red eared sliders that are as big as footballs, but mud turtles here (native ones at least) stay less than 4 inches, so I can live with one more small tank, but I have to get the pond done in the back yard…
Congratulations on the new addition to the family! :)
Turtles seem kinda fun ^^. But I would probably forget them after a day or 2, since they most likely don’t make any noise hehe.
Always wanted a Irish setter tho. To join me on my jogging. But living in the city, working 8 hours a day is kinda harsh to leave the dog inside all day.
