A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood

Wow, what a great day it’s turned out to be so far.   At a time of year when the weather is growing more and more dark and depressing, I was happy to wake up to a beautiful sunny day!

Colors of Autumn

I took this photo (WITH MY NEW CAMERA!) while Xander and I were out with the dog this morning.   I think this is one of my favorites of all the fall photos I’ve taken.  Look at those colors… green, blue, orange, yellow, red… eish!

That’s one thing I love about the Netherlands.  We still get fall with the leaves turning and everything looking really beautiful, but the grass stays green too.  It doesn’t turn brown and die like it often does back in Canada in the fall / winter.

Another interesting thing happened while we were out.   I actually got close enough to spiders and spider webs to take photos.   I’m scared shitless of spiders but the entire neighborhood is covered in webs from this particular kind of spider that comes out at this time of the year.   The sun was shining on all the webs and I had to try the camera out on them.

Spider in his Web

The coolest part was when we came across a spider in the process of spinning his web.   Xander swung his arms around in the area in front of it so I wouldn’t walk through any other webs.   Then I leaned in to try to catch the spider in the act.

Spinning his Web

Good lord, I hate spiders… but I think their webs are pretty amazing. It was cool to watch one in the making!

  1. I love to take pictures of spiders–they’re so alien looking and ferocious–but this year it’s been so dry here that the spiders don’t seem to be around. It’s nice to see this one on your blog tho, Breigh.

  2. You take really good photos. I am officially jealous!
