It’s now been almost a year since we took Stelo home and lost Cupid. When Cupid died I was really worried about Stelo but he really did seem a lot stronger from the beginning.
This is Stelo today! Click on the photo to view it larger (looks better that way!)
He has really grown! He’s strong and healthy, eats like a little pig and I’m sure he knows how pretty he is. He’s all like “Be sure to get me from my best side now!”
I think it’s probably my fault though, for such a small turtle (only about 2 inches so far), he really does have a lot of room to himself. He is already in a tank that is big enough for him at his adult size, so he has a ton of space.
Check out Stelo’s palace, if you look you can see him on the basking area up top, he’s the little black round bit (again, it’s better to view it larger)
He is in for a surprise though, once Phoenix grows a little more he will be joining Stelo for a while, until he outgrows it. At adult size (anywhere between 8-12 inches depending on gender) Phoenix will be approximately twice the size of Stelo (anywhere between 4-6 inches), so it wouldn’t be safe to leave them in the same tank. Also, the tank just wouldn’t be big enough for them both.
I don’t know where Phoenix will go when he is full grown but I still have a few years to worry about that yet.
He is so adorable! I love his home, you did an amazing job creating it for him.
