When Noah was two years old I started a blanket for him for Christmas. I really enjoyed making it but then like with a lot of projects I came to a part of the construction that was annoying and tedious and I put it away. He turned four this weekend and for the last 1.5 years I’ve said “I really should finish that blanket” at every Christmas, Birthday, Easter and other occasion that went by.
The time has gone by so fast, I can’t imagine what it must be like for Penny!
Knowing that he was turning four, I realized that I was running out of time for this blanket to still be at least somewhat age appropriate. He’s out of his big coloring stage (which lead to me finding this pattern in the first place) but he is still young enough to enjoy the colors and that it’s crayons.
It was still a pain in the butt to complete. I loved everything about this project until it came time to do the lettering. I honestly wasn’t sure I was going to have any hair left by the end and some of the lettering went on quite wonky, but there was no way I was doing it over again.
I will probably make this blanket again but with some experimentation on making the lettering easier. The way the pattern calls for it to be done is to follow a pattern of crocheting the letters, which end up looking like little sticks and you bend them into the shape and then hand sew them to the blanket. Next time I think I would try to embroider the letters by crocheting it directly onto the blanket, or use fabric glue to get the letters in place before sewing them.
In the end, seeing this made it all worth all the hard work. The poor little dude came down with the flu and started puking his guts up halfway through his party (I am trying really hard not to think about all the slimey kisses I got from him yesterday!). I later saw this photo on his mom’s Instagram and thought it was so sweet. I love that blanket, wonky letters and all! I’m so glad that he and his mom both like it too!
If you are interested in making this blanket you can find the pattern here!
For those of you in NL who can’t find or don’t want to use the Sandnes Garn Smart yarn that the pattern calls for, I used Schachenmayr Nomotta Bravo which is easily available, affordable and really nice to work with!
Tammy, thank you so much for telling me where to get the pattern, I have a grandson who is 7 months, so will probably make it someday.
Hope Noah is feeling better. Not fair getting sick on your birthday.
Have a good rest of your day, Lynn
Love the blanket. I would love the pattern. Could you embrodery thr letters directly onto the blanket? i think that is what I would do.
You are looking great in your Pink shirt. Way to go!!
Lynn the pattern is here: http://www.crochetme.com/media/p/88943.aspx
If I do it again I will definitely try putting the letters on the blanket with embroidery rather than the method explained in the pattern. ANYTHING would be easier and more fun than the way it’s meant to be done haha
That is so cute and so well made
Thanks! :)
It’s beautiful!
Thanks Monica! :)
That is absolutely adorable! I bet he loves it- I hope Noah is feeling better soon :( Poor little guy sick on his birthday!

Thanks Lori! :) Yeah it would suck to be sick on his birthday, I was right he totally infected me too! haha
That is so cute! And so sad that lil Noah got sick, but having that blankie surely made him lots better. I love it!
Thanks Tera :( Yeah I felt so bad for the little guy getting sick on his birthday, was bad timing for sure!
