Stormy Weather (M.I. Hummel)

Recent Finish - Stormy Weather (Hummel)

I started this cross stitch years ago when I first came to NL.   It landed in a drawer and came out once or twice but I never got around to finishing it until recently.  It’s pretty manky and crumbled from 8 years of being worked on and then stuffed away but I’m hoping that once I clean it and get it framed it will look nicer.

I really like Hummel designs, and I like the history behind them.  You can read it here on the M.I. Hummel Club site.   A young Bavarian girl has her drawings discovered and made into figurines… it’s said that the figurines became known in America when the soldiers in Germany sent them back to their loved ones during World War II.

I already have one Hummel cross stitch framed in my livingroom which I started and my mother completed (Feeding Time) and there are a few others I’d like to do as well.

Now, if only I could find a place here in Rotterdam that mounts and frames cross stitches, I’d be all set!   I’ve done smaller ones myself but ones like this I’d rather leave to the professionals.

  1. Tammy this is so beautiful. Your Nana would be so proud of you. I just had to come tell you this when I saw your pictures on my RSS feed. It brought a tear to my eye because I could actually picture the light in her eye as she looked at them. Then she’d give you a mouthful for leaving them for so long. lol. Seriously, you were her sun, moon and star, Tammy. You will never be alone because she will always be looking out for you ( and Zander too)

    Love always

(I’m proud of you for finishing these too. I doubt I could have done it. Good job)

  2. I like that one, my aunt has a Hummel that I bought her years ago when I was in Germany. That cross stitch would have been perfect a few days ago! LOL!

  5. that’s really nice…I haven’t done cross stitching in a longtime. I’m focusing hooking a rug that i have had on the go for awhile now and finally took it out of the closet yesterday. Let’s hope some major progress is made and it’s finished soon, I’ve had it since last Christmas lol

  6. This is gorgeous! Your stitching is really nice and neat too. I find it so hard to find really nice cross-stitch kits here in NZ, I need to start checking online more. At the moment I’m working on some small nursery rhyme/storybook pieces which I hope to turn into a child’s quilt or a cot blanket or something like that. I think I saw these figurines on Antiques Roadshow once too, even though I would never choose to watch the programme!

  7. Im so envious of you! this looks fantastic! I tried cross stitching years ago but I always went cross eyed and then I’d forget where my place was..LOL I love it..well done and I bet it will look even better when you have it framed.
