A few weeks ago I was invited to visit the Scheepjeswol headquarters for a Bloggers Day event they were having this past Friday and I have been counting the days (hours, minutes…) ever since. They had arranged a day for a few of us crocheters and knitters to get together, learn a bit more about the company and tour the warehouse. We learned a bit about the history of the company, what their plans are for the future and got to see all the different types of wool and other bits they carry. There was even a workshop on styling photos!
There were six of us in total:
Myself
Kirsten (Haak maar Raak)
Esther (Happy in Red)
Nerissa (Miss Neriss)
Marinke aka Wink (A Creative Being)
Maaike (CreJJtion)

I guess it was hard to nail me down and get me to pose for a portrait but I was just enjoying the photo styling session so darn much! It has really made me want to dig out my DSLR again, which I had actually been thinking of selling (AGAIN), because I’ve defaulted to mostly using the camera in my phone for everything. Seeing what some of these other bloggers do with the photos of their WIP’s and finished products has made me a little ashamed for not making the best of the gear I have and getting better photos of my projects! I guess a nicer way of saying it would be that they inspired me to do better!
I am the new kid on the block in the group and the only one that seems to favor knitting! Some of them have been blogging about their crafts for a long time, and Maaike (who also gave the styling workshop) even has a book of beautiful crochet projects coming out soon! I really loved seeing the projects they were working on and learning about their blogs. All such talented women with a wide variety of tastes made for a really cool gathering because we all had our own particular interests that fell under the same common theme of handmade items.
Touring the warehouse? Well, yeah… there are no words. We were all like kids in a candy store! Remember how I just said that I was rethinking my idea of selling my DSLR, well here’s why – I HAVE NO PHOTOS! All I had with me was my phone and I walked away without a single photo of the warehouse. Partly because I was just too busy drooling and fondling everything in sight, but also because my mobile just would not have done it any justice.
All is not lost, though. Thankfully Esther got some wonderful photos and shared them over here on her blog! Seriously, stop now and go look because nothing I say will possibly describe the level of awesomeness of that place. So just go. GO ALREADY. I’ll wait…
** Cue elevator music **
Ok, right?? Do you see what I mean? Have you ever seen so many buttons? Oh and the yarn, especially the new Stone Washed, which I have a project coming soon in the thicker Stone Washed XL, to die for.
Remember this old meme? This is what was going on inside me as I stood calmly, listening and nodding while they told us about the place.
Inside? TOUCH ALL THE THINGS!!
Outside? *nod* Yes, I can be adult about this, stand still and pay attention without running off like a 4 year old… probably. I hope.
I totally pulled it off, by the way.
It was just a fantastic day all around. Getting to meet some of the people from Scheepjes, including a designer I’ve been speaking to for a month or two now, meeting the other bloggers, all of it… it was fantastic. I walked away with my head full of inspiration and ideas for future projects and my arms full of amazing goodies given to us by the company. It was just SO great! I’m so glad I was included and was able to be a part of it.
As you can probably tell, my blog is starting to take a turn towards being more about crafty stuff and less about expat life or other general life things, but that’s ok right? Who doesn’t love a bit of yarn porn!?
