Scheepjes Our Tribe: A Closer Look

When the new Our Tribe yarn was released, I decided that I wanted to do a swatch of every colour, because I think that a lot of people find it difficult to get a real idea of what the yarn was like just from looking at it wounds up in the balls. I thought that it may be useful to see part of it knitted up to get an idea of what colours are in each different colourway.

I know when I am looking a new yarn, especially if I need to order it online, I find it helpful to look at projects already made with it on Ravelry just to see it knitted or crocheted, but with yarns that are quite new, you don’t get to see every colour for a while.

It took me a while to make the swatches and get the photos done as I am having trouble with my shoulder, but I managed to MacGyver a setup to allow me to get the photos without having to hold the camera.

I used a walking stick and my Gorillapod to hold my camera over my foot stool, then used WiFi to control the camera with my phone. Pretty smart, huh? I love technology!

Ok, I know you aren’t here to watch me pat myself on the back about my photography setup (no, that’s not how I hurt my shoulder!) so, let’s have a closer look at the yarn!

Before I get started, just a wee disclaimer. These swatches were made purely to give an idea of the colours, so I knit it on larger needles to save time, which isn’t quite as tidy as it would have been if I was knitting them on the recommended needle size.

The Our Tribe stripes also don’t follow any particular pattern, which means that some colours may not be represented on the knitted swatch (otherwise I’d end up with 15 long scarves), but in those cases I made sure that any colour not fully shown on the swatch was seen on the ball. These are just meant to give you a better impression of the colours than you may see in photos on shop websites when looking for the right colourway.

Hope you find them helpful!

  1. Hello,
We are a reseller of Scheepjes yarn and just started offering Our Tribe to our customers in Japan.
We’d like to ask you whether you allow us to use your pictures (especially swatch) on this page on our web shop in order to show more detail of the yarn.

  2. Thank you so much! This is perfect to see the color way.

  3. I can’t thank you enough Tammy, this is perfect! I have scoured the net and Ravelry for swatches to not much satisfaction. Now I can really see the colours and make an informed decision as to which two combinations will work for Lilla Björn’s CAL. I’m an earthy colour girl so now can see those colour ways nicely. Thank you again, you are a star. PS I hope your shoulder heals quickly :)

  4. Thank you. This is really helpful. I hope your shoulder has improved.

  5. Oh WOW Tammy – thank you SO much that is brilliant. Im so sorry your shoulder is bad – I know what thats like. My best friend is an electric heated pad – they do them on Amazon I think. Take care and thank you again.

  6. This is just what we needed. Thank you for taking the trouble.
