A confluence is defined as a flowing together of two or more streams, rivers, or the like, which is the perfect name for the flowing together of the combination of two different colourways of Scheepjes River Washed yarn.
This is an easy knit that makes a great project for someone who wants practice in knitting in the round. It can be knitted on double pointed needles or on a long circular needle using magic loop, whichever you are more comfortable using.

Pattern Notes
To read more about the inspiration for this cowl you can see my blog post about it.
This pattern is knit in a set of two tubes. Each tube is folded in half and the ends worked together to continue as one wider tube. The looped section of both pieces are wound together into the braid, with the larger tubes connected end to end for the wrapped portion of the cowl. After you have your braid the way you want it you will want to tack it into place to prevent it being pulled into a tight knot. When seaming together the very ends of your wider tubes, I find this invisible seaming method works best.
Instructions
With Yarn A, provisionally cast on 30 sts with 5mm needle and join to work in the round.
Knit until piece measures 70cm in length.
Fold your work in half as shown above and pick up provisionally cast on sts so both sets of stitches are side by side on your needles, ready to be worked as one large tube.
(The above photo shows a regular cast on, as this is was one of my original test pieces. A provisional cast on was chosen for the finished design as it makes picking up the stitches easier. You can do a regular cast on and pick up and knit from those stitches if you choose, it is up to you which method you prefer.)
(K4, k2tog) to end working both sets of stitches together as one tube. (50 sts)
Continue knitting this larger tube in the round until the end of your second ball, leaving a few grams at the end for assembly and tacking of the braid.
Cast off.
Repeat the above instructions for Yarn B.
When both pieces have been completed, assemble the braid as shown in the assembly photos below.
Attach the cast off end of Yarn A to the cast off edge of Yarn B using your preferred seaming method. This is the one I use.
The tutorial photos were done with swatches in the colours Mississippi (946) and Danube (948).

Hallo,
Loes Snippe
Hi Loes, sorry for my late reply. That sounds like fun! I’d love to see some photos if you work on the project together. :)
