Now that I’ve come out regarding my addiction to all things spinning, I can tell you about The Spinning Box! I’d been watching people talking about it for a few months on some of the spinning groups I’m in on Facebook, and I was soooo tempted. It’s a themed box, which is packed with random fibery goodness for you to enjoy. I’ve seen 100 different yarn version of these types of mystery boxes, but for some reason have never really been tempted by them, but the spinning ones? Oh yes, I want them all.
I’ve watched unboxing videos to get an idea of what they are like and saw people posting their photos, and I wanted one so bad! It felt a bit splurgy to me at $49 + European shipping, especially with me being such a new spinner, but it really wasn’t so bad once I saw the dollar amount converted to Euro! In the end I went for it and I had actually just missed out on the June box, so I was primed and ready when the July box was announced.
I decided to do something a little different this time, and made a video!
I KNOW!! I hate doing videos and rarely do it but I was so excited that before I knew what I was doing, I had my phone out and was recording myself going through the box. I wasn’t even out of my pyjamas yet!
So, a few things to make note of before you watch the video.
- This was just done for fun, I have zero aspirations of being the next big thing in crafty podcasting. So, take it for what it is.
- The theme is actually “Brrrrr” not “Chill” but I was close. Same diff…
- In my excitement, and desire to not show my address, I opened the box upside down! I’m sure if the Spinning Box folks watch this video (which they will as I will send them a link) they’ll facepalm. It should be opened delicately, showing the lovely sticker, etc.. but no, that’s not how I roll. I ripped that sucker open like a 3 year old on xmas morning. Sorry!
- There’s swearing. I’m me, what can I say. I’m not meant to be around delicate ears.
- If it seems like I can’t read, it’s not true, I can read! I was just looking at everything through the screen of my phone, so it was awkward.
- The Popping Candy did not disappoint.
Ok, here you go! Almost 20 minutes of me babbling, making porn noises at fiber and being an all around weirdo. YOU’RE WELCOME!
Apparently, the way it works is, each box gets a portion of a larger selection of fiber that is available from their participants. I only realised this after seeing someone else post their July box, which included all different stuff. This lead to me doing the following:
- Panicking, thinking I’d gotten the wrong box.
- Excitedly comparing what I got with others who had just received theirs.
- Finding this video and realising there are actually TONS of possibilities for what you receive.
- Asking the lady behind The Spinning Box to do a MEGA box where you get one of everything (I shudder to think of what the overseas shipping would be on that, though!)
- Asking if you order TWO boxes, will they make sure there are no doubles (yes, they will!)
Anyway, this was like Christmas in July for me and I absolutely loved it! If you are on the fence, take the plunge, the surprise is really fun!
