This lady definitely made the best of the recent snow here in Rotterdam. When we saw her coming we initially thought she had a kid in the sled, but when she got up close we realized it was her groceries. We told her how clever we thought it was and she said she figured if she had to drag it home after dropping her kid off at school, she may as well put it to good use!
Even the hardcore snow lovers like me are getting tired of the snow here in the Netherlands, though we don’t get nearly as much as in other countries. It’s great in the beginning because it reminds me of home and usually comes before Christmas so it gets me really wound up and excited about the holiday season. The down side is that what you see in this photo is considered a lot of snow here. We never get that real winter wonderland that I remember in Canada. It’s white for a day or two and then it’s just slippery, slushy and patchy. The first snow is awesome, the second snow is exciting… after that, I’m over it. It doesn’t help that this country isn’t prepared for it so everything goes tits up. Trains don’t run, people aren’t experienced with winter driving and are nervous, which can get dangerous. The kind of snow that we get here that hardly covers your shoes is more dramatic than the snow that has you crawling out windows to shovel doors free in Canada.
So when it snowed again on Tuesday I was unhappy. I figured I could sit at home and grump about it or get out and try to enjoy it. Like this lady I decided to make the best of it. Xander and I bundled up, we got the dogs ready, grabbed my camera and went out for a nice long walk.
It’s amazing how long you can walk in the cold with a camera in your hands!
You’re right, Tammy, the snow is quite nice and exciting at the beginning but when it turns like you said slippery, slushy and patchy, that’s a completely different story. I really like that photo though; what an interesting idea she had, that woman! :)

Penny, i think you should trademark your idea…it would fly here! LOL
I thank you for explaining my feelings about snow here. That’s exactly it. The bit we get here stops the world just as climbing out the windows does back home. Yep.
I miss real snow, but I too am over this winter!

I also think it’s different because we don’t get a lot of the fun that we are accustomed to that comes along with snow. We don’t get to go ice skating unless it’s REALLY freezing, which it rarely is… and who wants to skate on those overcrowded little rinks in the city centers? We don’t get to go tobogganing because, hello! NO HILLS! We don’t get to go out on a snowmobile because it’d be way too expensive and where the heck would you ride them? Through farmers fields or on the bike paths?
Do you really say: Want to go tobogganing?
I love it! We just call it sledding…
.-= Tera´s last blog ..Cereal =-.
haha shit, now I don’t remember what we called it. I know we’d say sledding too, but I assume I’d say tobogganing if that’s what I wrote without thinking.
I wonder if they make a double one? I could load Noah up front and groceries in the back LOL
You may be on to something there! Maybe we can make our fortune producing them for next year! We can sell them at the x-mas markets! Oooh big dreams haha
Alternatively, you could just sit Noah on top of the groceries, it’ll help teach him how to balance! Just don’t sit him on top of the bread :P
Awesome idea :-)
BTW, you’re blogging more often now :-) Happy to see newer posts.

Thanks Nigel! I tend to go through waves with blogging. Sometimes I go blog crazy, other times it’s like I died haha
