The Sampler

I’ve finally dug out the sampler quilt I started making in my quilting class oooooh 1.5 years ago.  I had finished all the blocks but they were just tucked away in a drawer waiting for me to do something with them.   Since I quit work recently I figured this would be a great time for me to get it done!

Sampler Quilt FrontSo far I’ve cut all the connecting strips and corner squares and gotten all the blocks put together.

Next I have to make the large border around the entire thing (which I plan to do in navy) and then the fun begins… that was sarcastic, by the way.

The step after the border is done is putting the 3 layers (front, padding, back) together and then the quilting.  I don’t mind the quilting, I like it actually, but lord do I hate putting the three layers out and trying to get them together properly.  Especially in our flat where we don’t have a big enough table or enough floor space to do it.  Even if I do manage to make enough floor space, it doesn’t matter if I sweep and scrub, there still seems to be cat hair there.  Sorry, ranting.

I’m really looking forward to getting it completed.  I’m going to hang it on my livingroom wall and demand everyone keep their grubby little paws off it because I’ll be too afraid to wash it in case something runs or shrinks.

Anyway, there it is… I think it’s going to be awesome when it’s finished!

Beautiful quilt. I always wish I could afford one of the ones the Mennonites make for the relief fund sale. Of course theres no possibility of me making one. An heirloom in the making, wonderful.

  2. The quilt is stunning! But really, I know all too well about not enjoying the finishing work. I love knitting something then hate seaming the pieces together.

(You could always hire someone to do the bits you don’t like…)

  3. That definitely looks good! I think not getting cat hair in anything if you have a cat is pretty impressive. :) I have cat hair everywhere. not to mention my own hair. :P
