This weekend Xander and I are doing… nothing! We are just hanging around the house relaxing and enjoying not having to be anywhere or do anything.
Last weekend was very busy… On Friday we were busy sorting out a few things I will mention in future posts (hehe secrets!) as well as Saturday in the day.
Saturday evening we went to our friends Christy and Paul (but I forgot my camera – boo!) for a BBQ. It was really nice and after it got too chilly we went inside and played some Rummikub, which I think we all agreed I REALLY suck at. Xander, on the other hand, kicked our asses every game.
Sunday was a beautiful day so Xander and I went back to Kinderdijk. The last time I was there it was rather cloudy and I wanted to get some more photos on a sunny day, so Xander asked if I wanted to go on Sunday morning. It was so beautiful and a lot more busy than the previous time.
I took a ton of windmill photos but this turned out to be one of my favorite photos of the day.
I call them ‘clog boots’ but I’m sure there is an actual Dutch name for them. It’s real Dutch wooden clogs made into boots. They were hanging on the wall inside one of the windmills and apparently they have been there for a very long time.
I think there are some farmers here who do still wear them. I can’t imagine them being very easy to walk in but I guess if you are used to them it’s not so bad. They just struck me as being soooo Dutch though, I loved it! I imagined this old farmer working in the windmill, tromping around in his big wooden clogs. For a few minutes I was a tourist again.
Sunday evening we went to visit our friend Alan. He’s a British expat friend of ours who worked with Xander at Shell and I befriended at one of their colleagues birthday parties. He recently bought a little house in the center of Delft, which is one of the most beautiful little cities in the Netherlands. You may know it as the city where Delft Blue Pottery originates from.
His house is on a tiny street in the center of the city called Trompetstraat, which he finds quite funny because he says that in the UK a Trompet is a slut. So I guess you could say his new house is on Slutstreet.
As you can see it’s an adorable little street with a lovely view of Niewe Kerk (New Church) in the Delft Market Square.
It was a great weekend overall, filled with friends and fun… but Xander made me promise ‘No social engagements!’ for this weekend, which is why we are hanging around and being lazy. He really cherishes his chill out time.
Only two sleeps until my 32nd Birthday…
Er is er een jarig hoera hoera dat kun je wel zien dat ben JIJ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Happy Birthday ;-)
Hope you found a nice spot for the aquarium.
See u soon
I love Delft (both the town and the pottery). It was one of the prettiest places I visited.
Happy birthday!

I didn’t know a trumpet was a slut in the UK. I never stop learning.
