turkeyrollA while back I got turkey breasts on sale at the supermarket and put them in the freezer. I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with them but I decided to do a sort of turkey roll thing with stuffing and bacon and all that yummy goodness. They are in the oven now but this is what they looked like before I put them in.

Hopefully I’ll cook them properly and not totally massacre them.  It said online on the recipe to put them between wax paper and beat them with a meat mallet.

Right, so what do you do if you don’t have either of those things?

I grabbed this cooking paper that we had for in the oven, slapped them between and pounded them with my fist.  I have my doubts that this was the best technique but I’ll be damned if it didn’t feel good.  I think anytime I’m ever stressed or pissed off it’ll be “Right, turkey rolls for dinner tonight!”

On another note… Whenever I talk about TV shows that I’ve seen (and there are oh so many) people always ask me how I find the time to watch so many.   This is mainly people who still have big clunky desktops.  I live for my laptop, my Vaio is my lifeline!  It’s how I talk to my family, how I keep up with life back home and how I entertain myself.   Where I go, it goes…

My kitchen!  Still a few odds and ends left to do.  The radiator cover under the window needs to be painted and as do the walls above the tiles since there is a bit of grout mess there.  For the most part though, it’s finished!

Back to what I was saying though.  This is how I get to see so much TV…  have a peek into how my mind works.

I knew that dinner was going to take a while to prepare so I took the laptop (as you can see sitting on top of the microwave) into the kitchen with me.   As I peeled the potatoes, bashed the turkey and all that other cooky stuff I watched three episodes of Big Brother UK.

SHUT UP, I like Reality TV, OK?!

It works for me, I get things done while still keeping myself entertained.

It’s just as hard for me to imagine how other housewives do things as it is for them to imagine how I do it.  I can’t imagine how incredibly boring it must be to stand in the kitchen cooking with nothing to look at but the tiles.  Granted, my tiles are BEAUTIFUL but even with their shiny white newness they aren’t enough to keep me entertained.

I hope my dinner has three-BB-episodes-long-preparation worth of taste.

It came out great!  I love when I cook something and it turns out to be something we’d actually have again.   I know I’ve been doing this wife thing for a long time now but I tend to find meals I’m good at and stick to them.  Either that or food that even the biggest kitchen-idiot couldn’t ruin.

Anyhow, in hindsight I’m sure we could have had half each rather than a whole one, as we’re both holding our bellies and groaning now… but hey, at least it’s not from food poisoning!

  1. I wish I could reach over, grab it and have a bite. Looks yummy!!

  2. That really looks delicious!
What did you use for filling?

  3. Looks yummy, I will have to try and make something like that myself. I am the same as you, I hate to try new things sometimes afraid to ruin it and make a waste. But congrats it looks yum.

    The room is beautiful! Wow!

  5. wow, that looks AWESOME. I’m hungry now.

  6. That looks awesome! Did you make the stuffing yourself? You will have to cook that for us one day :)

I usually use any heavy bottom pan and plastic wrap. Once when I was desperate I filled a glass with beans and put plastic wrap over it and used that. Hey whatever works right?

  7. using the frying pan method always works to pound meat. Also, there’s really no need to use wax paper if you don’t have it. plastic wrap with a little water sprayed on it works too. you’re just using that so you don’t get everything dirty is all. :)

that definitely looks good. I’ll have to try something like that out myself.

Oh, and our kitchen has a great view of the tv, so while i’m cooking i get to watch tv too. :)

  8. You must let me know how it turned out. They look yummy. Next time you need to “pound some meat” oh god that sounds so dirty ah well, the next time just use a small frying pan, between wax paper of course. I have heard it works, I have never tried it my self.
