Hij is Weg!

That means… HE’S GONE!!

He being my asshole neighbour who left his junk everywhere and was always noisy… among other things.  He had two weeks to pay up his unpaid rent or he was going to be kicked out, and he left before they had the chance.  Over the weekend he and his friends packed everything into his van and he’s gone.  Gone away…forever… whoo hooo!

There was one surprise though…

My Neighbour's Crap

He took out all the junk everyone has been complaining about.  Yeah, can you believe he had all that sitting at the bottom of our stairwell?  No wonder we were all so ticked off!

I have to admit I was shocked when I saw him removing it.   I find it hard to believe that he did it on his own though.  I figure the rental company threatened to take more money from him if he didn’t clean it up.  As it is they are going to take money from his account each month to make up what he hasn’t paid them.   That’s what happens when you don’t pay your rent!

Once the other neighbours saw that he had put his ‘big garbage’ out, they did as well.  Here in NL we have something called Grofvuil which is who you call when you have garbage that is too big for the bin and needs to be collected specially.  They tell you what day they will be in the neighbourhood and you put all your large items out on that day.

Usually once one neighbour sees that someone has their big junk out, they take the opportunity to get rid of theirs, since they are coming anyway.

There are also scavengers who know when the Grofvuil will be where and they go around picking through it looking for anything they can take to use or resell.  Below is a photo I took of two of the regular scavengers going through another neighbour’s junk:

Scavengers

You really have to wonder if these people actually make anything off of the junk they pick up… but there are sometimes things that are quite valuable that get tossed simply because people have no use for them anymore.

I guess I’m no better than them though, since that’s how I found my exercise bike.  I saw it sitting on the sidewalk and I scuffled my way into our building dragging it along then put it in the basement until Xander could help me get it upstairs.  Works perfectly!

One man’s junk is another man’s treasure!

Of course, the bike is now MY junk… sitting unused in my spare room.  I’m going to dig it out and start using it again though, uhh… I swear!

  3. Doing the happy dance for ya! Yeah he is finally gone!

That is crazy funny people go through the garbage like that! You have such action on your street I swear!

  4. Hehe, we do that in Japan too, and people actually throw away a lot of perfectly fine things! of course, in japan it’s considered very rude (or even illegal) to go through the trash. I never really understood why.

but “gomen-shopping” (gomen is informal japanese for “sorry”) is a popular thing to do at night. I’ve gotten just about brand new tv’s, refrigerators, stereos, electronics, you name it. Fun fun! :)

but awesome news that he is gone!

  5. Yay! Great news!

You know, I keep thinking that I’ve TOTALLY forgotten the dutch language, but I understood the title to your post the instant I read it. I suppose there is still some dutch floating around in my noodle…

    :)
