Last night Xander had a meeting in the evening so I was on my own for dinner. I sort of enjoy those nights because I can make something for myself that he doesn’t like. I decided I wanted Pink Mush With Blobs, which you may remember from the abuse I took from my friend Matt about it a while back.
I promised him I’d take photos of it next time I had it, so here they are. I’ll explain how it’s made, try to keep up.
250g mashed potatoes and 100g extra lean ground beef.
Mix it all together.
Add a buncha ketchup.
Mix it all together again.
Yummm-EEE!
Matt has taken to calling it Hog Slop, and I figure I should probably be upset since I’m the hog that’s eating it, but screw it. I like it and he’s just missing out. I don’t really see how it’s all that different from when people take a bit of cheeseburger, dip their fries in ketchup and then shove them all in the same mouthful. Potato, beef, ketchup… same difference.
MMMmmmmmmmmmmm….looks good.
Reminds me of what I used to do as a kid when I didn’t want to eat what mom made for supper…Which waaay back then (the sixties) was usually some combination of potatoes and hamburger because we hadn’t discovered such gourmet goodies like rice (except Minute Rice) or pasta (known as “macaroni” or “spaghetti” back then).
After picking at the separate piles of mashed potatoes, “runny hamburger” as it was called, and the canned peas for 20 minutes, the meal would get cold…then I’d ask for ketchup (which I hated and still do)…then, being artistic, would draw it through the potatoes making pretty swirly designs…Then I’d add the meat to add texture…Then I’d whinge, “I’m FULL, mom!!” And she’d reply, “Well, you know the rules. No dessert then!”
Which was usually canned peaches or something, so I didn’t really care.
No wonder kids were skinnier back then…
Good ole Canadian comfort food eh?? Yum yum.
Anyhow… it isn’t all that different from Dutch comforst food– Hutspot or Stampot!! Don’t let them tease you!
I think it’s the “mixing” where start to you loose me. Perhaps, I will try it someday…Though I am sure like you I will be eating it all by myself.
I am glad you enjoyed it!
I was ok up until the final picture of the mash.
Growing up my favorite food was almost identical to that. Instead of ketchup we added tomato soup to the beef! :) Made a wonderful yummy creation when mixed with the mashed potatoes… Now ya got me craving it!
Whoa hopped by while viewing ya on BotB on blogexplosion. :) That looks delicious even when I don’t eat beef… :) I’ll change the meat and probably make a bowl of this myself. Yummy! Btw I love the ketchup bit the most. haha
i liked it right up until you added the ketchup.
Looks good to me! Personally, I’d leave out the ketchup but that’s my bowl of slop.
