We made it to Canada safe and sound. After a loonnnng time traveling (approximately 22 hours from our house to my parents) we are now in Canada and finally adjusted to the time difference. It’s weird to look at the clock on my laptop right now and see 11:05am when it’s 6:05am here.
We’ve been pretty busy since I got home. The first night we got here it was late and we pretty much went straight to bed, but then on Saturday we went and did a bit of shopping, went to this haunted house thing and then Saturday night some friends of mine had a party. Yesterday we went into Sydney to the flea market and my parents drove us around to show us all that has changed since we were here last, which was a lot!
I have an absolute ton of pics but I haven’t had time to sit and get them off my camera and sort them out. I’m absolutely in love with my new camera though, I definitely made the right choice picking the new Exilim.
The only bad thing that has happened is that I got a friggin’ cold. I should have known I was doomed really. Xander had one before we left and I thought I had caught it from him but I didn’t, then we came here in a flying germ machine to see my mother who was sick with a cold. After all the hugs and kisses, I was coated in her cooties and it was only a matter of time. At least I can regress to when I was five years old and let my mommy take care of me!
Today there is a massive cruise ship coming into Sydney, so we are going to go there to see it and my mother says there is a big craft fair at the pavilion where the ship is docked. Shit, I love craft fairs! I’m going to have to buy another suitcase to take all the stuff I buy home.
I love being home, I mean I REALLY love it. It’s so nice to be in my own environment and see all the people I’ve been missing for so long. It’s weird because I’m not used to everyone around me speaking English. When I go somewhere like the supermarket, I don’t expect the cashier to speak to me in English and my first instinct is to speak Dutch to her. It’s bizarre! I’m also not at all used to running into people I know. I’ve just randomly run into more people I know here in the last two days than I have in the last 6 months in Holland!
Some things seem really foreign to me now though. Places that used to be a day to day part of my life are noticeably odd now. For example, yesterday we went to this new big Wal-Mart that was built while I was gone. The one that was here before was big but this one is absolutely massive. The size of the products in the grocery stores seem huge. Everything is so… grand… here. I think I’ve forgotten what that was like and am just totally accustomed to how things are in the Netherlands now.
Well I hear my parents coming in from their morning walk, time to start day three! I’ll be back soon with pics!
Yay!!! Welcome back to Canada :) Come visit PEI ;)
Have a great time, glad you made it safe and sound.
Thinking of you,
Lynda
